This winter I went for a weekend trip to the mountains to get my last taste of Canada before moving to Australia. We went on a hike through Johnson Canyon and I was not prepared for this hike at all. I was wearing my Ugg boots, leggings and a small jacket (and as we all know in Canada you need proper winter-wear especially for these occasions). As I was hiking up the mountains, I kept slipping down the hills and falling into the snow, I'd use the trees to pull myself up and had numerous strangers see me struggling and push me up where I needed assistance. I began to get frustrated with myself wondering why dressed like this to hike up these mountains, but with assistance I made it to the top and enjoyed the view.
Since being in Australia my relationship with God has been a roller coaster, some days I feel so tuned in to what God is doing and other days I don't even know if he's there. One thing I've learnt though, it's not God who's the distant one, it's me.
2 Timothy 2:3 "If we are faithless he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself."
God is a relational Father, he desires to have intimacy with you, he desires that time you set aside for him, he desires to have conversation with you. God has already done the work in your relationship with him, it's up to you if you want to grow close to him.
Jeremiah 29:13 "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."
It's up to you to decide what choice of footwear you're going to put on every morning. The thing is, even when you choose the wrong pair of shoes, he'll still look after you to see the bigger picture because he's a faithful Father. Slipping up those slopes made me enjoy the view even more, you'll never come out of a hard season of your life weaker. You'll come out victorious. Choose intimacy, choose HIM daily, and I promise you, your view of God will be indescribable.
And maybe for your next hike, you'll have learnt how difficult you made it and choose the right footwear, because I certainly did.
