Brisbane

Brisbane is in the state of Queensland and home to city life, a man made beach, museums and galleries.

Best places to stay:

- Brisbane City YHA: Located in Brisbane’s CBD, it’s easy to hop over to Southbank, head out to the nightclub precinct Fortitude Valley, or jump on a train to the coast from here.

- Bunk Brisbane, Fortitude Valley: Right in the heart of Fortitude Valley and shares its spaces with Birdees Nightclub, one of the most popular clubs in Brisbane where you can experience amazing parties every night.

- Summerhouse Backpackers: Conveniently located hostel in the city with super chilled vibes. The facilities are clean and dorms are quiet at night so you can sleep easy.

- Breeze lodge backpackers: Located in Kangaroo Point on the other side of the Brisbane River facing the city. This brand new hostel has a very modern and stylish fit out with a rooftop terrace with city views, a kitchenette with microwave and tea/coffee making facilities on every level and a main fully equipped kitchen in the common area.

Top things to do:

- Southbank: As the inner city’s green oasis, South Bank is an iconic destination.  Built on a former industrial wasteland. It is the thriving heart of the inner city and represents everything the locals (and visitors) love about our lifestyle. On weekends and holidays, the South Bank Parkland is awash with activity.

- Story Bridge: As one of only three bridge climbs in the world, this is a must-do when you are in Brisbane.  Get up early and climb the bridge to watch the sunrise, or come back in the evening when the sun is setting for arguably one of the best views and experiences in Brisbane.

- Mt Coot-tha: Mt Coot-tha (Brisbane Lookout)  provides a wonderful opportunity for an 180-degree view of the city.  On a clear day, you can see right across the Brisbane bayside.

- Moreton Island: Just off the coast of Brisbane lies the gorgeous Moreton Island, and the Tangalooma Resort. After enjoying a great ride across on a ferry, there are some fantastic activities to get involved in.

- Kangaroo Point Cliffs: Made from volcanic rock and heritage protected, these incredible cliff faces are a landmark in Brisbane. Located on the opposite side of the river to the CBD, the cliffs offer a sweeping view of the city.

Food & Drink:

- Guzman Y Gomez: Delish Mexican food and perfect for quick eats. Plus they have $5 burritos every Friday.

- Max Brenner: Every sweet tooth's dream. Dive into chocolate fondue, wild sundaes and all types of hot chocolate (no there's not just one).

- Cru Bar: Dressed to impress? This aspirational drinker's favourite isn't just about glamorous looks. A detailed knowledge of cocktails, aperitifs and spirits of all kinds backs the comprehensive list. Adjoining one of Brisbane's best independent wine stores opens up endless vinous possibilities.

- Jungle Bar: An unadulterated tiki bar tucked into a shopfront, grass matted walls and ceilings, totem carved timber stools and staff who look like Magnum P.I. extras reflect a dedication to the theme. Relax into a long, languorous afternoon exploring the rum-based drinks list.

- The Pancake Manor: Located off of Queen's Street this 24/7 restaurant is a GEM in the city. Best pancakes with unlimited combinations of toppings.

Brisbane is a place I called home for just under a year and I loved it. It's a lively city vibe, has heaps of free things to do and you're so close to the beaches so adventure is always close!
