Vancouver

Updated: Jun 14, 2022

Vancouver is arguably one of the best Canadian cities. It's the Hollywood of Canada, has unlimited places to eat, and endless things to do (and did I mention AMAZING coffee?) I love going to Vancouver (not only because 2 of my best friends live there) but every time I go, there's something new to do. Here is just a glimpse of my Vancouver highlights.

Deep Cove, North Vancouver

Best places to stay:

- The Cambie: The location of the Cambie Hostel is killer. Right in the heart of Gastown, it’s an easy walk to most bars and clubs, excellent restaurants, transit, and attractions. The vibe is classic backpackers with good common areas, making the Cambie a perfect place to meet up with other travelers.

- Samesun: Located on Granville street, right where all the action takes place. Close to dozens of bars, restaurants and entertainment.

- HI Vancouver Downtown: For one this hostel is a ROOFTOP and it's well located on Burnaby Street between Thurlow and Bute, this hostel is steps away from the prideful West End hub of Davie street.

- YWCA Vancouver Downtown: It may lack character but makes up for it with prime location, right on Beatty Street between Georgia and Robson the YWCA is right across the street from BC Place. Book an upper room for views of the stadium and the city.

Best places to eat:

- The Warehouse: Warehouse is located right by Gastown and has a $5.95 menu.. ALL DAY. It's a grungy restaurant, where you can't see the person sitting across from you but the experience is great and it's also great for the wallet.

- Tacofino: If you love tacos (like myself) hit up Tacofino, located both in Gastown and on East Hastings, you won't have to worry about getting a table. Not only are their tacos delicious, their sangria is to die for.

- Yolks: Located on Broadway this little breakfast stop is a go to. There will be a wait, be prepared but hit up Elysian coffee as you wait (the coffee at yolks isn't top notch, however their food definitely is.)

- Granville Island Brewery: Like tasting beer? Hit this place up and get a flight of beers on the beer map. The grub is pricey but you mostly go for the drinks and experience.

- MoMo Sushi: Hands down one of the best sushi restaurants I've been too, located on Robson street in the heart of the shopping district. Sushi in Vancouver is so fresh since they are located by a body of water and this restaurant prepares it so well.

Richmond Night Market

Best things to do:

- Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge: Although the Capilano bridge is more popular the Lynn Canyon is identical and FREE. Don't have to pay a dime to visit this wonder.

- Granville Island: Go hang out for an afternoon at this hidden market by the marina. Wander markets, drink beer, get some fresh fish to eat and stare at beautiful yachts.

- Whistler: Approximately an hour and a half away, take a day trip to this cute mountain town in any season.

- Cafe hop in Gastown: Like coffee? Me too. Go get your caffeine fix as you cafe hop in Gastown. Also take a peak at the famous "Steamclock"

- Stanley Park: Rent bikes for $5 or take a walk around the SeaWall at Stanley Park. This ride isn't for the faint of heart considering it takes an hour but the views are worth it.

- Vancouver Aquarium: More than 50,000 animals from across the world, there’s no shortage of incredible things to see at the Aquarium. Pay attention to the website so you get there to see shows.

- Shopping: Go to Robson street for some incredible shopping! Endless shops and restaurants to explore, don't forget your wallet!

- Deep Cove: Located in North Vancouver, Deep Cove is a cute little fisher's town hidden between mountains. Be sure to stop at Honey Doughnuts for the tastiest, cakeist doughnuts you'll ever have.

These are only a FEW of the best things to do and best places to eat. Things to do in Vancouver are ENDLESS, you may even spot a few Hollywood Stars ;)

Vancouver is overall very safe, but the homeless population is huge, however they keep to themselves but there are so many opportunities to help. If you have a spare few hours, go to East Hastings and bring food, start conversations, any impact helps.
