Less then a month and I'm heading out for a new adventure. It's been a hectic year to say the least so having this upcoming move is exactly what my heart needed.
A couple months ago I received an email from YWAM Hawaii saying they found my blog and would love for me to come down and be their blogger. At first they asked me to commit for 2 years however financially that's not in the books for me so I had to decline the offer. After a few more phone calls they asked if I'd be willing to come for 3 months and I happily accepted. Going back to YWAM was something I never expected to be doing considering the lifestyle I've had these past few months but I truly believe it's exactly what I need.
YWAM also known as "Youth With A Mission" is a global organization made up of Christian's whose purpose is to 'Know God and make God known. We have 1,100 locations in 180 countries and has over 15,000 volunteers. YWAM is a non-profit organization and is completely voluntary, we host hundreds of ministries and different types of schools for everyone. To start with YWAM you do a Discipleship Training School, otherwise known as "DTS" (we love our acronyms), it's a 6 month school which has 3 months of lectures and a 3 month outreach. During lectures you'll learn more about the heart of God, how to be a missionary, learn about different cultures and biblical knowledge. On your outreach you'll be in a different or same country and apply what you've learnt. During my outreach we spoke at different churches, painted homes for people unable to do so, led youth groups, helped in orphanages and just loved on people. I did my DTS in Brisbane, Australia and my outreach in Malaysia and Indonesia.
I'm heading to YWAM Kona and I'll be serving at the ships base. YWAM ships sail to isolated places, set up clinics ashore, and conduct surgeries on board for free. A primary goal is to reach remote Pacifica islands without airports. It can take weeks to sail to remote islands across the vast ocean. The Big Island of Hawaii is ideally situated in the great expanse of the Pacific Ocean to achieve this mission. My role will be keeping the newsletter/blog updated for the base and helping out wherever I can. For more information click the link below:
My flight is booked and I'm leaving early morning on January 1st 2020 (what a way to start the New Year). I titled this 'back to the beginning' since when I first did my DTS I was 18 and that's where I felt my life began, since then life has been a rollercoaster so I'm looking forward to starting my year with a clean slate and coming back to where I felt I belonged.
