Positano has been blowing up on the internet and for good reason. This stunning village sits on the cliffside of the Mediterranean giving every spot you explore the perfect viewpoint. This is a place where you want your camera out at ALL TIMES.
The only downside to Positano besides the steep stairs, is the cost. It is definitely one of the more expensive spots on the Amalfi Coast however, that doesn't stop it from being extremely popular!
We decided to stay in Sorrento since it was world's cheaper and a bit more quiet! We stayed at the Unconventional Sorrento Hotel and it was superb! The room was squeaky clean, the staff were so warm and welcoming & they had a cute garden area where you can have your morning coffee or a night cap before bed. It was about 10 minutes walking distance to town but they also do offer a shuttle for 10€, which we certainly took advantage of coming from the port with our bags.
From Sorrento we took the bus to Positano, the bus ticket costed 4€ per person. They run a bus every hour and they do always fill up so be sure to get there early to guarantee a spot.
This day the ferries were down so it was extra busy however they added more buses so we only had to wait for about an hour. The bus ride is very scenic, I'd recommend sitting on the left side if you can (opposite of the driver). Once you arrive the bus stops at the top and you turn right and begin the journey down the stairs.
We wanted to take our time going through the village and exploring every street. Only downside to this, the beach fills up fast so by the time we got down there were no more beach chairs (but hey, we saved 35€ lol)
We stopped at Luna for a aperitivo, it was a bit pricier being 15€ per spritz but you are definitely paying for the view and the server was fabulous.
We wandered down to stop at some shops and enjoy the true character of Positano.
Once we made it to the beach, we laid our towels on the sand and I ran to the store to grab a bottle of rose! They uncorked it for me plus provided glasses..
Once we were beached out we headed back up the infamous Positano stairs to get to the bus stop. This is where things got slightly tricky, the bus comes from Amalfi coast which means they are PACKED. We had 5 full buses pass by us in the two hours of waiting. We then collected about 10 people from line to take a group cab which costed 20€ per head, but at least we made it back to Sorrento.
Top Things To Know:
- Cheapest transport: BUS and get there early! Other option is a ferry which costs around 24€ depending on the day/time
- If you did want to snag a beach chair, arrive right before the beach club opens (9AM).
- Don't skip out on the other 2 beaches, they both have stunning views and will likely be less busy!! (Fornillo Spiaggia & Arienzo Beach Club)
- Make sure to book any dream reso's in advance, places fill up QUICK
- It's pricier than most spots on the coast so prepare your wallet for this and don't be surprised by 30€ plates of pasta's
- If you want to see Positano at night you either have to spend a night in a hotel there or get a private transfer since buses stop running at 6/7pm
- ^^ With the above being said the last buses are at 6/7pm and are always full so be careful with your time not to miss the last bus!
Hope this helps Xx
so enjoying this. you make me feel like I am there!!😘
